Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is fixed wireless?

Fixed wireless is the operation of wireless devices or systems used to connect two fixed locations with a radio or other wireless link. Usually, fixed wireless is part of a wireless LAN infrastructure. The purpose of a fixed wireless link is to enable data communications between the two sites or buildings. Fixed wireless data (FWD) links are often a cost-effective alternative to leasing fiber or installing cables between two points.

The point-to-point signal transmissions occur through the air over a terrestrial microwave platform rather than through copper or optical fiber; therefore, fixed wireless does not require satellite feeds or local telephone service. The advantages of fixed wireless include the ability to connect with users in remote areas without the need for laying new cables and the capacity for broad bandwidth that is not impeded by fiber or cable capacities. Fixed wireless devices usually derive their electrical power from the public utility mains, unlike mobile wireless or portable wireless devices which tend to be battery powered.

  • How does ICYNET wireless communication work?

Fixed wireless services typically use a directional radio antenna on each end of the signal. Several types of radio antennas are available that accommodate various weather conditions, signal distances, and bandwidths. They are usually selected to make the beam as narrow as possible and thus focus transmit power to their destination, increasing reliability and reducing the chance of eavesdropping or data injection. The links are usually arranged as a point-to-point setup to permit the use of these antennas. This also permits the link to have better speed and/or better reach for the same amount of power.

These antennas are typically designed to be used in the unlicensed ISM band radio frequency bands (900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5 GHz), however, in most commercial installations, licensed frequencies may be used to ensure the quality of service or to provide higher connection speeds.

  • Is this a satellite internet service?

No. Our service is broadband internet that is served via fixed wireless radios, making the service far superior to all satellite options. A robust and fast wireless network connects to our fiber optic internet sources. ICYNET Communications is a high-speed Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP).

  • What is site survey?

During the site survey phase, technicians will come to your location and do a wireless survey to determine if we can adequately service your location and obtain the required minimum signal level. If signal levels are within our specifications, the technician will discuss the installation process, mounting options, cable paths, and the path for entrance into your home.

  • What is the installation process?

The installation phase will happen any time after the site survey. During the installation phase, the technician will mount the wireless radio equipment outside your home and run a network cable from the radio into your house to connect to your computer or router. The technician will make sure your computer or router is connected successfully to the Internet and perform various tests to make sure the connection is working within our specifications.

  • Do I have to sign a service contract?

No. Our service options are month-to-month, and you can cancel at any time.

We believe more in giving people a great service than squeezing them for a contract

  • What if you cannot provide service at my location?

We are continually expanding and can contact you as soon as service is available in your area.

  • Can I change my speed and plan?

Customer may request a speed change at any time. Contact us and choose one of the options available or ask for a custom plan.

  • How can I help to bring Internet to my neighborhood?

We always explore the options to expand our network. Your residence may be a good location for a small tower or roof setup and act as a transmission point. Call us and inquire about our partnership program.

  • Is it safe to send my credit card information over the Internet?

ICYNET Communications does not collect or store customer credit card information. We use a Square payment processing system which adhere to the following security standards:

    • Sensitive data is encrypted using industrystandard methods when stored on disk or transmitted over public network.
    • Only standard, wellreviewed cryptographic protocols and message formats (such as SSL and PGP) are used when transferring data.
    • Symmetric cryptographic keys are required to be at least 128 bits long. Asymmetric keys must be at least 2048 bits long.
    • Security updates and patches are installed on servers and equipment in a timely fashion.
    • Security settings of applications and devices are tuned to ensure appropriate levels of protection.
    • Network are strictly segregated according to security level. Modern, restrictive firewalls protect all connections between networks.
    • Cardprocessing system adhere to PCI Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) Level 1.
  • What if I have trouble with my service?

If you experience any issues with your service, please try power cycling your router and the power injector. Wait 2 minutes and see if service is restored, if not please call us as soon as possible so that we may correct the problem.

  • I referred a customer. How do I get a credit?

To ensure you receive a credit, please make sure that the person you refer gives us your name when they set up their installation. Once they are installed and the account is activated the credit will be applied and a confirmation email will be sent to the referee.

  • If I move can I keep my service?

If we service your destination, we will provide free of charge equipment move.
